Rabat – Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita discussed, yesterday, Thursday, with his Yemeni counterpart, Shaia Mohsen Al-Zindani, ways to enhance bilateral cooperation between the two countries.

This came during their meeting in Banjul, Gambia, on the sidelines of preparations for the 15th session of the Islamic Summit Conference, scheduled for next Saturday and Sunday, according to the official Moroccan News Agency.

The conference is held under the slogan “Promoting unity and solidarity through dialogue for sustainable development.”

The agency said that the two ministers “discussed ways to consolidate relations between the two countries and further enhance bilateral cooperation in various fields.”

During the meeting, Bourita affirmed his country’s support for “Yemen’s unity, stability and sovereignty, under the leadership of the Presidential Council.”

He expressed his rejection of “foreign interference in Yemen’s internal affairs,” according to the same source.

The agency quoted Al-Zindani as saying, “Morocco and Yemen share historical and fraternal relations at all levels.”

The Yemeni minister added that his discussions with his Moroccan counterpart addressed a number of issues of common interest.

He stressed “Morocco’s support for the government of Yemen, its legitimate authority, stability and unity.”

The escalation in Yemen threatens an atmosphere of calm that has been going on for two years, within a war that broke out regarding 10 years ago between forces loyal to the legitimate government, supported by an Arab military coalition led by neighboring Saudi Arabia, and the Houthi forces supported by Iran, who have controlled governorates and cities since September 2014, including the capital, Sanaa.
