CThey are very sad stars on the shelves of supermarkets and specialized food shops. A series of foodstuffs have experienced a very particular price blow over the past 12 months, indicates Statbel. The champions in all categories, according to the Belgian statistics office? It was eggs that rose by 38.6% last February compared to February 2022. The reason: the price increase for chicken feed, the soaring energy bill, as well as a drop in production. Some farms have indeed ceased their activities for a time – and some even forever – because of their soaring costs.
