The flu epidemic remains at “high levels” in the Antilles

Influenza viruses continue to circulate actively in the West Indies (epidemic phase), indicates Public Health France, in its latest bulletin (March 30). In-city indicators for flu-like illness have remained at a high level over the past week in Guadeloupe and Martinique.

In hospitals, the type A virus remains predominant in Martinique despite a sharp drop in the number of viruses isolated over the past week while hospital activity remained high in Guadeloupe with a stable positivity rate and a predominance of the virus type B.

Covid indicators on the rise

In Saint-Martin, the number of consultations remained high in liberal medicine last week, which justifies maintaining it in the epidemic phase. Conversely, it has been very weak in Saint-Barthélemy for several consecutive weeks. The territory is no longer in the epidemic phase.

Regarding the virological indicators of Covid-19, they increased last week in Martinique and Guadeloupe, with a more marked increase in Guadeloupe. The positivity rate increased by 2.6 and 4.11% respectively in the two territories.
