Tens of thousands of visitors attended the annual Flower Parade in Voorhout. It was announced in the village towards the end of the morning on Saturday that ‘Elephant Festival’ of Corsogroep KAVB Hillegom-Haarlem and the surrounding area has the most beautiful float this year.

The prizes were presented by parade chairman Willem Heemskerk, the mayor of Teylingen, Carla Breuer, and the King’s Commissioner in the province of South Holland, Jaap Smit. There were also prizes in the children’s parade. The children ride on regarding sixty to seventy carts, scooters and small carts decorated with flowers in a procession in front of the large floats.

Fifteen floats left Noordwijk on Saturday morning for Voorhout and followingwards they will visit Sassenheim, Lisse and Hillegom. According to a spokeswoman for the Flower Parade, the procession is running well on schedule. Sometimes the parade can be delayed due to a railway crossing or a flat tire, she explains. But according to her, such a delay never lasts long, because there are enough technical people along.

According to the spokeswoman, tens of thousands of people showed up in both Noordwijk and Voorhout to view the floats decorated with flowers. She calls the turnout “fantastic” and better than last year, while the weather forecast is worse this year. A total of one million visitors are expected for the Flower Parade in the Bulb Region.
