We have found a flower on Mars. It is not the flower we are looking for, but in a way it is a symbol of what motivates us to travel to space. We’re alone?
The first missions to mars they were simple exploration missions, but now NASA no longer hides it. The rover Perseverance and future missions to Mars and other stars, have as their main objective, look for signs of life.
It is an idea that has obsessed Humanity since we became aware that we live on a small planet, within an infinite universe. Are we alone in this universe?
At the moment we settle for finding any kind of life: bacteria, microorganisms, plants… That is why the last photo sent by the Curiosity rover from Mars has attracted attention: a beautiful and delicate flowerwhich you can see in the opening photo of the news.
Unfortunately it is not a vegetable flower, but a rock flower. But it is a beautiful metaphor of the eternal search of the human being to find life on other planets.
This curious rock is not some kind of fossil nor does it have a mysterious origin. But it is one more proof that Millions of years ago, there was water on Mars.
The flower, the size of a coin, was captured by the rover Curiosity with his MAHLI camera, on February 24.
Along with the spherical rocks on the right, it was formed millions of years ago, when the minerals carried by the water cemented the rock.
Curiosity has in the past discovered a wide variety of similar small elements that formed when mineralizing fluids traveled through conduits in the rock.
These highly detailed photos are helping scientists better understand the long history of liquid water in Gale Crater.
It may not be a real flower, but it is a kind of reminder that tells us: “Keep trying”. It may take years, or decades, but scientists are convinced that sooner or later we will find life in the Solar System, although surely it does not go beyond microorganisms.
A vegetable flower, it would be almost a miracle. But who knows?
