The first venue for the Baseball Americas Series was announced: the details
  • The countries that confirmed their participation are Panama, Cuba, Nicaragua, Curacao, Argentina and Colombia

The Baseball Association of the Americas (ABAM) met on Friday, September 20 in the Panamanian capital to define its board of directors, statutes and, in passing, reveal that Nicaragua will be the first venue for the Baseball Series of the Americas, which will take place from January 23 to 31, 2025.

Today, the General Assembly of the Baseball Association of the Americas is being held with the firm purpose of growing baseball in the region,” said ABAM President David Salayandia at the press conference.

The baseball organization is made up of the professional and semi-professional baseball leagues of Panama, Cuba, Nicaragua, Curacao, Argentina and Colombia. So far, Venezuela has not confirmed its participation.

They claimed that they will compete with the Caribbean Series

Salayandia clarified that the ABAM does not intend to “fight with the Caribbean Baseball Confederation (CBPC)”, which is chaired by the Dominican Juan Francisco Puello, but rather that the intention is to broaden the spectrum of baseball in the region.

“If any of the members of the Baseball Association of the Americas receive an invitation to the Caribbean Series, they will probably say yes, but this time it will be under new circumstances,” said the president of ABAM.

On why the initiative to create the new group was born, Salayandia explained that the common denominator of those of us here is that we have all experienced the disappointment of not being incorporated as permanent members of the Caribbean Confederation, to which we all have a right.

“(We live) with the anxiety that this year they invite me (to the Caribbean Series) and next year they don’t,” he added.

Former Panamanian major leaguer Carlos Lee, who is the president of the Professional Baseball League of Panama (Probeis), agreed with Salayandia’s words and went further by stating that “it’s enough that they say they invite us, but they don’t give us any participation.”

“We have all waited long enough to be considered, and this is not a way of competing with the Confederation, but rather an initiative of the countries that have professional baseball leagues and that do not take us into account,” Lee said.

Caribbean Series

The Caribbean Series is an annual club tournament contested by professional baseball teams from the Caribbean. The series is usually played in February, after the various leagues have finished their national tournaments. This tournament was founded on February 20, 1949.

Nicaragua celebrated the appointment

Nemesio Porras, president of the Nicaraguan Baseball Federation, said that it is an honor for his country to be the first venue for the 2025 Baseball Americas Series.

“I have no words to describe the emotion and honor I feel that my country has been selected to host the start of this Series of the Americas,” Porras said in his appearance before the media.

Porras announced that three stadiums will be used for the tournament in Managua, these being the National Sovereignty Stadium, the Roberto Clemente Stadium in Masaya and the Rigoberto López Pérez Stadium in León.

The federation estimated that this baseball tournament will cost more than 150 thousand dollars and that in this first edition they will work with the contributions of the different leagues that are part of the association.
