Percy Jackson has had two adventures on the big screen – but neither have they been particularly loved by fans or the “Percy Jackson” author himself. The series “Percy Jackson And The Olympians” should now do better.
It’s good times for fantasy fans! Two absolute top-class fantasy games are currently running with “Game Of Thrones: House Of The Dragon” on Sky and WOW and “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” on Amazon Prime. And Disney+ isn’t staying idle either, and is launching a series full of magic and magical creatures – although it will take a while here. The first season of the novel adaptation “Percy Jackson And The Olympians” is not expected to start until early 2024.
The first teaser trailer, which has now been released as part of the Disney D23 trade fair, makes fans of Rick Riordan’s books now Hoping that the series will be an appropriate adaptation of the mega-popular book kingdoms. Not only the fans were not satisfied with the two cinema films, “Percy Jackson – Thieves in Olympus” and “Percy Jackson 2 – The Bane of the Cyclops” with Logan Lerman – book author Riordan himself hates these films. No wonder that the film series was not continued, only two of the five volumes were filmed.

Now, in the series for Disney+, up-and-coming talent Walker Scobell (“The Adam Project”) slips into the role of 12-year-old demigod Percy Jackson, son of a human mother and the god Poseidon. And in the first teaser trailer for “Percy Jackson And The Olympians” Not only does Camp Halfblood look exactly as it is described in the novels, in Percy’s voice-over many passages are taken directly from the beginning of the first volume “Diebe im Olymp”, such as user @mlordcasshole TikTok makes clear.
‘Percy Jackson’ novelist working on series
The teaser confirms what Rick Riordan has repeatedly assured: The Disney series should stick very closely to the template. Riordan is the best judge of that himself – after all, he is working on the series himself and has not only worked out the story arc for the first season, but has also already compiled ideas for possible further seasons with his colleague Jon Steinberg.
So if it should be a quality feature of the series for fans of the books that they faithfully implement the template, then they should actually have hopes for a successful “Percy Jackson” series on Disney +.
