The first TikTok stories appear

The TikTok application is experimenting with a new design of “story” by integrating them directly into its main “For you” video feed.

While TikTok Stories are not yet available to all users, the social network is experimenting with a new design. The goal is to integrate Stories into users’ main video stream.

Faster creation and publication

A new quick create mode on the camera allows the user to create new stories more easily.

This new story creation mode is called “Quick”. Thus, the creation of a new story is now done via the “+” button. This saves the user from having to go through the sidebar.

More dedicated space

New TikTok Stories appear in the For You feed rather than their own tab. When a user scrolls through their feed, photos and videos in stories are identified by a blue dot. Matt Navarra, social media consultant, explains this new feature in a video shared on his Twitter account.

24 hours maximum, but stories accessible to all

Prior to this update, TikTok users might only see Stories from profiles they follow. The social network now allows all its users to view Stories shared by a public profile. Finally, just like on other social networks, photos and videos shared on stories automatically disappear following 24 hours.

Note that this new TikTok feature is still being tested. Stories are therefore not yet accessible to all users.

In this update context, Instagram is also thinking of modifying its application. Indeed, the network is testing Stories with vertical scrolling rather than horizontal, as is currently the case. In other words, the same scrolling mode as on TikTok. Video Stories with a maximum duration of 60 seconds are also being considered by Instagram, which has already launched the tests.
