The first Swiss Watch Festival is being held from Friday to Sunday in Yverdon-les-Bains (VD). The meeting wishes to make watchmaking know-how better known and to encourage vocations to maintain this heritage. About thirty independent watchmakers, craftsmen, collectors, trainers and designers will take part in the event organized in the Explorit complex. The objective of a handful of enthusiasts is to make it a showcase within everyone’s reach. “It will not be a fair, but a fun and festive festival, focused on exchanges and partnerships”, explained to Keystone-ATS Marie Commergnat, director of the Association in charge of the project. On the menu: participatory workshops, demonstrations, school stands, but also films on watchmaking and concerts.
“It will be possible to assemble your watch from scratch and leave with it,” notes the president. But also to discover the manufacture of a cog, for example the hairspring. Among the guests is Estelle Lagarde, gouache artist and designer in fine jewelry and watchmaking, but also the master engraver Richard Lundin.
“There was a need for a meeting in the center of French-speaking Switzerland to give a good showcase to independent watchmakers and craftsmen, but also to encourage vocations”, continues Ms. Commergnat. Explorit will present animations and a few craftsmen on the ground floor (free entry) and on the first floor the plateau of all trades related to watchmaking (paying). /ATS
