President-elect Yoon Seok-yeol today announces the first Prime Minister of the new government to be inaugurated next month.
Former Prime Minister Han Deok-soo, head of economy, was appointed as the first prime minister of the new government.
An official from the elected official said, “President-elect Yoon will return today from the Jeju 4.3 Victims Memorial Ceremony and have lunch with former Prime Minister Han Deok-soo and announce the nominee for Prime Minister himself.”
Former Prime Minister Han Deok-soo, a former orthodox official, served as deputy prime minister and prime minister for economy under the Roh Moo-hyun administration, and served as ambassador to the US and president of the trade association during the Lee Myung-bak administration.
It is analyzed that his career encompasses not only economics but also diplomatic and security, and he was evaluated as a suitable person to deal with the economic crisis.
In addition, it was considered that it would be easy to obtain the consent of the Democratic Party during the personnel hearing process of the National Assembly following going through important positions in the Kim Dae-jung and Roh Moo-hyun administrations, who were born in Jeonju, North Jeolla Province.
After receiving the recommendation of the first prime minister, Yoon-elect plans to nominate the deputy prime minister and other ministerial candidates as early as this week.
