Magdy Sakha, representative of the General Syndicate of Lawyers, said that the Matrouh lawyers’ crisis is on the way to being resolved.
Sakha added, in a special statement to “Masrawy”, on Saturday, that the union has been seeking for days to reach a solution to end the crisis.
This came in response to what some lawyers, including Sameh Ashour, the former head of the Bar Association and a member of the Senate, circulated regarding the publication of Counselor Gaber Khalil, President of the Alexandria Criminal Court, during which he announced that a reconciliation had been reached between Matrouh lawyers and court employees, with the intervention of Counselor Saad Al-Saadani, President of the Judges Club. Alexandria and a delegation from the Alexandria and Matrouh Bar Associations.
The publication stated that the problem had been resolved and reconciliation records between the two parties had been documented.
The Council of the Bar Association had decided to suspend work and attendance before criminal courts and Public Prosecution investigations throughout the Republic, as of yesterday, Thursday, January 19, for an indefinite period, in response to the issuance of the Matrouh Misdemeanor Court, First Circuit, sentencing 6 Matrouh lawyers to two years in prison with hard labor. And two years of supervision, in the case known in the media as “Matruh Lawyers and Matruh Court Employees.”
The Council of the General Bar Association, with the participation of the unions’ unions, held a meeting yesterday, Friday, to discuss the repercussions of the lawyers’ crisis in Marsa Matrouh, which is scheduled for January 22, 2023.
In its meeting yesterday, the council decided to meet permanently until the crisis resolved, and authorized the Bar Association to form a defense committee to attend the session of January 22, 2023, to assume defense duties because the case does not affect those who were brought to trial alone, but rather the entire entity of the association.
