The first of January will begin the payment of one million pesos to the first peace managers: Petro

President Gustavo Petro announced this Friday that from January 1, 2023 the program will begin young peace managers whose objective is to grant subsidies of up to one million pesos per month a hundred thousand young people

From El Tarra, Norte de Santander, where this Friday he leads the assembly of coca growers of Catatumbo, the head of state announced that in that region regarding 1,500 young people will be summoned to enter the program, who would be the first to receive the subsidy throughout the country.

This week President Petro announced that His government will locate 100,000 young people from vulnerable areas of the country to integrate them into the monthly subsidy program that will have to be allocated to education.

The peace managers program is different from the peace spokespersons, the other project with which the Government will grant the parole to the members of the First Line accused of committing crimes in the framework of the 2021 protests. The spokesmen for peace, unlike the managers, will not receive financial subsidies.

“The designation of spokespersons for peace cannot be confused with the initiative of the 100,000 young peace managers who will be part of the Ministry of the Interior’s Managers for Life program,” the government clarified on December 16.

The Ministries of Defense, Interior and Justice also reported this Friday that next week seven young defendants from the First Line will be released to become spokespersons for peace in their territories.

Of the seven young people who will be released, two are from Medellin and are in house arrest. The others are from Bogotá, Cali and Popayán. They are part of a group of 283 people who might become spokesmen for peace.
