Coimbatore: South India’s first movie theater ‘Delight’ is remembered. The last show was in June 2023. It was Rajinikanth’s man. 15 years ago, new films were stopped.

Delight Theater was established in 1914 by Samikand Vincent. It was called Variety Hall then. Since there was no electricity in Coimbatore, generators were delivered from abroad.

Variety Hall was the first theater to issue movie tickets printed using a pedal printing machine in the 1930s. In the 1960s, the Johars Group of Kochi bought the hall for a price. Then the name was changed to Delight Theatre. Sholay was exhibited here for a year. Later another person bought the theater on lease.

It is reported that the commercial complex will soon come up here. For this, the work of demolishing the theater building has started.
