The union committee representing the workers of the El-Nasr Coke Manufacturing Company will meet today, Monday, with Khaled El-Feki, head of the General Syndicate for Workers in the Engineering, Metallurgical and Electrical Industries, to discuss the next steps following the company’s liquidation, sources told Masrawy.
According to the sources, the meeting comes to discuss mechanisms and steps for negotiation with the Ministry of Public Enterprise Sector and the Ministry of Manpower regarding workers’ compensation for the liquidation decision.
The Extraordinary General Assembly of the Nasr Coke Industry decided today to liquidate the company’s business, nearly 62 years following its founding, to join the Egyptian Iron and Steel Company – under liquidation – which was liquidated in 2021.
About 900 workers are employed in the company, and the former Minister of the Business Sector, Hisham Tawfiq, told Masrawy that compensation will be paid to workers in the Coke Company, similar to the compensation of the workers of the Iron and Steel Company.
According to sources told Masrawy, the Holding Company for Metallurgical Industries wants to obtain the Nasr Coke Company’s share of the Helwan Fertilizer Company, amounting to 10%, in exchange for providing compensation money to the workers.
