The first lunar eclipse of 2022 will be seen in Chile

The first lunar eclipse of 2022 will be a total event, causing the Moon to turn red for a few minutes, which is popularly known as the “Blood Moon”.

April has the first meteor shower and a partial solar eclipsebut May will not be far behind and will host the first total lunar eclipsewhich will be visible from our country.

In this phenomenon, the Earth, the Moon and the Sun they will be completely alignedcausing the shadow of our planet to completely cover our natural satellite.

The astronomical event will take place on Sunday night May 15 to and it will start at regarding 22:27 PM., when the edges of the satellite begin to darken, as the Earth intersects between the Moon and the Sun.

According to the Time and Date site, the total lunar eclipse will be visible throughout the national territory. The eclipse is estimated to be complete around 11:39 p.m.when the Moon will change color, and will end at 01:00 in the early hours of Monday, May 16.

What is a total lunar eclipse?

A total lunar eclipse occurs when The Earth passes between the Moon and the Sun, casting a shadow on the Moon.. The three celestial bodies must be perfectly aligned for that to happen.

During the eclipse, the Moon will appear reddish because sunlight will not reach the satellite directlybut part of that light will be filtered by the Earth’s atmosphere and reddish and orange colors will be projected on our satellite.

This mysterious effect is popularly known as “blood Moon”.
