The first license for a “legal clinic” in Saudi Arabia

On Tuesday, the Saudi Bar Association issued a license to launch its first legal clinic, for the College of Law at Princess Nourah bint Abdulrahman University in the capital, Riyadh.

According to the Saudi Press Agency, the legal clinic is a non-profit facility affiliated with a scientific entity – a university or an institute – related to legal and Sharia specializations, providing legal aid services and free legal advice to those entitled, in accordance with the standards set by the Bar Association.

These clinics aim to provide legal assistance to eligible groups, training in providing legal services, raising the level of graduates of law and Sharia faculties, developing effective communication between them and the community, helping the trainee to acquire legal and judicial expertise and skills, and qualifying trainees to join the labor market.

This step comes within the framework of the Authority’s strengthening of its five-year strategic plan, and the activation of social responsibility through cooperation with the relevant authorities.

This license is the first license issued by the authority for the legal clinic in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, following verifying the necessary requirements according to the list of legal clinics, which was approved by the members of the Sixth Extraordinary General Assembly at its meeting dated January 4th.
