The city of Deauville will host the first “Deauville Sport Doc Festival” from April 3 to 5, 2024. This festival will aim to animate and highlight an audiovisual genre that is in full development and particularly stimulating for the sports ecosystem.

“Inspired by the recent global successes of documentaries or docuseries and by the proliferation of audiovisual formats around sport, this festival is an obvious choice,” explains Roland Giscard d’Estaing, President of the Festival. “The educational and pedagogical power of sport no longer needs to be demonstrated,” he continues. “This is why the Deauville Sport Doc Festival is part of a current dynamic which aims to make sport an accelerator of societal progress. »

The sports documentary indeed offers a particular look at sport, with a different way of telling it than live or in the press. It allows you to penetrate the complex worlds of high-level sport and discover human stories of personal and collective commitment, reflections of our society.

The Deauville Sport Doc Festival relies on the participation of all sports broadcasters in France who make up the Editorial Committee. The festival will be open to the general public and will host a professional market bringing together the different actors (producers, directors, buyers and broadcasters). Stéphane Meunier (“Les Yeux dans les Bleus”) will chair a jury made up of eight personalities (documentary professionals and athletes) who will award classic prizes (original creation, narration, direction, etc.) as well as prizes relating to societal contribution (impact , role model, commitment, etc.).

An ambitious event is thus seeing the light of day thanks to the support of prestigious partners: the city of Deauville, Lacoste, the Barrière Group, Canal+, the Normandy Region, Elle and the l’Équipe Group.

Catherine Spindler, General Director of Lacoste, premium partner of the event : “Lacoste’s DNA is anchored in sport and its power to transcend differences and unite around strong values. It was natural for us to support this event celebrating sports documentaries and for which a festival takes on its full meaning, in a context where this genre continues to grow in scale and attractiveness. »

Thomas Sénécal, Sports Director of the CANAL+ Group, and media partner of the Festival: “We are very happy to support the first edition of the Deauville Sport Doc Festival. The documentary is at the heart of our editorial offering and aims to immerse our subscribers in the fascinating world of sporting competitions. This is an area in which we are putting a big boost in collaboration with Christine Cauquelin (Director of Documentaries for the CANAL+ Group). Just like a sporting event, a fiction series or a cinema film, the sports documentary is a powerful vector of emotions that our subscribers love. I am convinced that this festival will highlight the liveliness and creativity of this content. »

Philippe Augier, Mayor of Deauville, is pleased that the first Sports Documentary Festival has chosen to settle permanently in Deauville: “The Deauville Sport Doc Festival represents a new opportunity for the city to demonstrate its dynamism. That of a city open to the world, at the forefront of culture, sport and media. We make sport a priority for the city, because today it is a place for transmitting central values. In addition, Deauville offers, with its hotel infrastructure and the CID (Congress Center), an ideal location to accommodate this rapidly expanding market. »
