The first honorary citizen of the Alytus district, the former pastor of Alovė, Stanislovas Stankevičius, died

The leaders of the Alytus district municipality announce with deep sadness that on April 5. 8:30 a.m. Monsignor Stanislovas Stankevičius (1934.05.12 – 2023.04.05), the former longtime pastor of Alovė, left for eternity. It will be consecrated in Alovė St. In the Trinity Church, today at 6 p.m. offered to St. Mass, burial is planned for Friday, April 7. 11 o’clock

Monsignor S. Stankevičiis was awarded the title of honorary citizen of Alytus district in 2007. He was the first to receive this title and also won the Clergyman of the Year award. Then he served the people in Alovė and Ryliški parishes. In total, the monsignor served in the Alytus district without a break for 53 years. Only last year, at the age of 88, due to illness, he said goodbye to his duties as a pastor and handed them over to the pastor of the Daugai parish, Vidas Jelinskas.

Algirdas Vrubliauskas, the mayor of the Alytus district municipality, presented the monsignor with a thank you for his lifetime merits, because most of the priest’s life was spent doing pastoral work in the Alytus district.

Mayor A. Vrubliauskas says that he had a special bond with the pastor called Father.

“He was an extraordinary man. I thank God that I was able to communicate with Father for so many years, to visit him, to talk with him regarding many things, to observe his real service. He saw only good in every person, even though we all have everything in ourselves. Always had a good word to say. I will remember him as a soldier of God, a true servant of God and people. May he rest in peace”, says Algirdas Vrubliauskas, head of the Alytus district municipality.
