The first comment from the Biden administration after the resumption of diplomatic relations between Bahrain and Qatar

Atlanta, United States of America (CNN) – The US National Security Adviser, Jake Sullivan, celebrated the news of the resumption of diplomatic relations between Bahrain and Qatar, on Wednesday, following a break of nearly 5 years.

“Since the advent of the Biden administration, the United States has been working to encourage regional integration, de-escalation, and rapprochement among US partners,” Sullivan wrote in a statement.

And the US National Security Adviser added, “The full unity of the Gulf Cooperation Council, of which Bahrain and Qatar are key members, is also an important step toward creating a more stable and prosperous Middle East, including through more integrated trade, economic, and defense arrangements.”

Bahrain and Qatar announced this step in a joint statement from their ministries of foreign affairs, following the Bahraini-Qatari follow-up committee held its second meeting at the headquarters of the General Secretariat of the Gulf Cooperation Council in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

“The United States looks forward to working with all of our partners as we develop this shared vision for a more integrated, stable, and prosperous region that ultimately serves the interests of the United States and the American people,” Sullivan added in the statement.
