The Venezuelan Olympic Committee (COV) reported on July 2 that triple jumper Yulimar Rojas and weightlifter Julio Mayora They will be in charge of carrying the Venezuelan flag on July 26 during the opening ceremony of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

Rojas will repeat as flag bearer of Venezuela following having represented the country in the Tokyo 2020 Gamesin which she was accompanied by karateka Antonio Diaz; while Mayora won the silver medal in weightlifting in the competition in the capital of Japan and in the last two Pan American Games she took the gold medal.

Yulimar Rojas will be the flag bearer despite not being able to participate in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games due to a injury to his Achilles tendon left side for which she had to undergo surgery at the Cemtro Clinic in Madrid, Spain on April 12.

The athlete expressed her frustration at what happened and confessed to feeling emotionally affected by not being able to represent Venezuela at the Olympics. However, the mishap did not prevent her from carrying the tricolor flag during the opening of the world event.

The selection of the national flag bearers has been carried out by consultation since 2008. The voting process involves those qualified for the Olympics, the committees of 19 states in the country and their respective Olympic municipalities, the board of directors of the organization and representatives of the Ministry of Sport and the National Institute of Sport (IND).
