“The fire reached the patios of some houses. It was one meter from three houses”. The fire chief of the Centro barracks, Jorge Vargas, assured that the work on the interface fire that broke out yesterday followingnoon in the Villaverde neighborhood, east of Bariloche, was extremely complex.
The first notice was given by a neighbor of the affected neighborhood at 4:30 p.m. At that time, the firefighters from the Central Detachment had gathered at the barracks to receive a colleague from Paraguay who was in Bariloche, carrying out an exchange.
Upon receiving the alert, a unit from the Centro and San Francisco IV barracks, together with the Splif brigades, gathered at the scene.
“Due to the characteristics of the area, there was a high risk of housing. A direct attack was attempted to contain the driveway fire. The fire started in a CEB transformer, He took a boulevard and came one meter from the houses located on Modesta Victoria street”he pointed.
Although there was no wind, with the high temperature and the extreme drought, secondary and tertiary sources were declared. “The temperature and the quality of the fuel caused the fire to spread in four different sectors. Upon detecting that, we had to summon the Civil Protection command and the rest of the barracks,” Vargas explained.
He highlighted the work of the two hydrant planes and a helicopter in the sector that allowed the fire to be contained in two hours. “If we had had wind, today we would be sadly talking regarding something else. We had a bit of a treacherous breeze, but very light. And the truth is that the initial attack was effective.”
Regarding the start of the fire, the residents of the Villaverde neighborhood indicated that they had heard an explosion and attributed it to a CEB transformer.
