The fire in the Viršuliškii apartment building has not yet been extinguished: after inspecting the apartments with special equipment, no more victims were found

According to Fire Protection and Rescue representative Donatas Gurevičius, it was still not possible to enter the premises and examine the burnt dead body that was previously observed among the collapsed structures, and there is no information about the missing person who may have been a minor in one of the apartments.

“In the apartment where a minor could possibly have disappeared, from the information we were able to look at, we cannot say that we see a human body or a missing person. The information is unchanged,” D. Gurevičius told BNS on Tuesday evening.

“We still can’t get to the burnt body either, but it’s really visible,” he added.

According to D. Gurevičius, the apartment where the dead person’s body was found and the apartment where the remaining child might have been are different, but the collapsed wall prevents the latter from being fully explored.

According to the firefighter, the apartments were inspected from the outside on Tuesday evening through the windows of the third and fourth floor balconies with a special six-meter-long probe equipped with a video camera, but the collapsed structure does not allow a full inspection of them.

D. Gurevičius says that it is still not possible to get inside the house, the fire is still not extinguished. According to him, on Wednesday morning, experts will gather again at the fire site, who will decide on the further situation of the apartment building and the possibility of inspecting the building’s structures.

According to the firefighter, firefighters and police will be on duty at the burning house at night.

The municipality of the capital declared an emergency in the burning apartment building in Viršuliškės on Tuesday evening.

According to the municipality, 57 residents of the house registered at the time of the fire, of which 18 people, including two children, were temporarily accommodated in a hotel, while the remaining residents decided to stay with their relatives.

Five victims were given medical assistance.

As reported by the General Assistance Center, on Tuesday at 11:16 a.m. The General Assistance Center received a report that an explosion occurred in Vilnius, at 101 Viršuliškių Street, and several apartments are on fire.

According to firefighters, around 3:33 p.m. the fire was contained.
