The final version of iOS 17 should go live on September 18

Casually, we are already coming to the end of the iOS 17 beta cycle. Apple released the sixth beta last night, which should be one of the last before the release candidate preceding the final version. But when will this final version be available to the general public? Let’s take a look at the calendar.

In 2022, iOS 16 was entitled to 8 betas. The latest was published on August 29, and the release candidate went live the following week, following the iPhone 14 lineup keynote. It was much the same in 2021 for iOS 15, which saw its last beta arrive in late August before CR in September.

If Apple sticks to a similar schedule, we should have iOS 17 beta 7 next week and beta 8 around August 29. The release candidate should be published following the Keynote presentation of the new iPhones. According to Mark Gurman, this will take place on September 12.

iPhone 15: September 12 more and more likely for the Apple keynote

It has now been two years since the final versions are released on the Monday following the presentation of the new phones. From there, we can estimate that iOS 17 will go live on September 18th. For their part, the iPhone 15 should be in pre-order from Friday 15, then available the following week, the 22. We can bet on the release of a first beta of iOS 17.1 a few days before that, potentially on September 20 .

And iPadOS 17? For a long time, the tablet system was put online alongside the phone version. However, Apple obviously struggled last year and directly released iPadOS 16.1 on October 24, skipping 16.0. She then explained to leave the possibility deliver iPadOS on its own schedule » : remains to be seen if the system will fall behind this year. That seems unlikely, with betas being pretty stable while developers don’t have to deal with something as complex as Stage Manager.

It’s hard to predict a release date for macOS Sonoma, which hasn’t had a lot of betas this year. The system is in its fifth version, one less than iOS. Ventura was released on October 24 last year, while Monterey went live on October 25, 2021, so we’re not expecting much before then.
