Saba Qamar is a big name in the art world of Pakistan who celebrated his art both in Pakistan and Bollywood.
On this Eid-ul-Fitr, Saba’s third full-length film ‘Ghabrana Nahi Hai’ is being screened.
Thus, Saba’s artistic career is quite long, but he has worked very little in films. In this regard, he said that films are so rarely made in Pakistan that this objection does not seem valid.
“Films used to be made during the time of Nadeem Baig and Shabnam, then nothing happened for such a long time. Now films are being made, so I also started working in films.’
She said that she wants to work in a good film, she does not want to work until she understands the script of the film.
So far, Saba has played almost the same role in all the films that have come out. On this he said that the character in his next film ‘Kamili’ will be very different.
About the film ‘Ghabrana Nahi Hai’, she said that she was excited after hearing the story of this film because it was a fun script so there was no reason to deny it.
He said that the film was named ‘Ghabrana Nahi Hai’ because it is good but this film is not related to the statement of former Prime Minister Imran Khan.
About her role in the film, she said that in the film, Zubaydah is the only child of her parents, who is raised by her father like a son, but due to a problem, one day he tells her that ‘Beti hai tu’, the word of the daughter was different for her and then she fights to prove her maan.
When Saba was asked why he has not yet done a film with a Pakistani male superstar alongside him, his reply was that at first it depends on the story, like the nature of the story in Kamli. That no man has an important role.
‘But the way Humayun Saeed is, the role of a girl in his film is not something I would want to do. If they make something in which the role of the girl is important, sure.’
Saba has also worked with Bollywood star actor Irrfan Khan. She treasures these memories and says she learned a lot from Irfan.
She says that Pakistani dramas and Indian movies are good. ‘Technical equipment is good in India. There they work in detail.’
Saba does not consider censorship as a hindrance to the development of Pakistani cinema as he believes that every country has its own culture and laws and he agrees with them.
However, he said about the topics that they should be discussed and the way of showing them should be according to the local conditions.
Despite agreeing with censorship, Saba admitted that censorship is a hindrance to the global reach of Pakistani dramas and films. He said that we can also film important matters in different ways.
Zee-Five is banned by the government of Pakistan and Saba recently acted for it in a web series called Mrs. and Mr. Shamim.
About this ban, he said that it is the government’s decision and it can see it better.
Saba’s preference is acting in front of the camera. She doesn’t prefer anyone in a drama, movie or web series, she just enjoys her work.
In 2012, he received the Tagha-e-Imtiaz from the Government of Pakistan and the Tagha-e-Hasan-e-Efsari in 2016, but he said that when someone calls him by his character’s name, it is the biggest award for him.
Regarding the online trolling of female actors, she said that many people like her and many dislike her and she doesn’t care, she recognizes everyone’s right to have an opinion.
Along with your film, three Urdu and one Punjabi film is releasing this Eid, so how much hope do you have for your film?
He clarified that he was not nervous at all because of his film. ‘People will love this film, I am sure of it.’
Along with this, he hoped that other films will also be released so that the Pakistani cinema industry can move forward and make more films.
When asked if she would act in a Punjabi film, she said that she would. She said that she has been offered a Punjabi film and she is thinking about it but it is a Punjabi film outside Pakistan.
He confirmed that it is a Punjabi film to be made for Netflix, but added that it would be premature to say anything if the contract is not signed yet.

**Interview with Saba Qamar: Celebrating Art and Cinema in Pakistan**
**Interviewer**: Thank you for joining us, Saba. You are a prominent name in the art scene in Pakistan and have made significant strides both in Pakistani dramas and Bollywood films. Can you tell us about your upcoming film, “Ghabrana Nahi Hai”?
**Saba Qamar**: Thank you for having me. “Ghabrana Nahi Hai” is particularly special as it resonates with the audience through its fun script. I was genuinely excited upon hearing the story, and I couldn’t find a reason to turn it down. My character, Zubaydah, is quite unique; she’s raised like a son by her father and navigates a journey of self-realization when she learns of her identity.
**Interviewer**: You’ve mentioned that movies are not produced as frequently in Pakistan. What are your thoughts on this?
**Saba Qamar**: Absolutely, there was a time when films were rampant, but there was a long hiatus. Now, there is a revival in filmmaking, which is encouraging. I’ve limited my work in films because I prioritize quality and a solid script. I want to ensure that any film I commit to has depth and a story worth telling.
**Interviewer**: You’re known for playing similar roles in your past films. How does your upcoming character in “Kamili” differ?
**Saba Qamar**: The character in “Kamili” is indeed very different from what I have portrayed before. I am excited for viewers to see this shift; it showcases a different aspect of my acting abilities and adds variety to my filmography.
**Interviewer**: You’ve also mentioned your work with Bollywood star Irrfan Khan. What did you learn from that experience?
**Saba Qamar**: Working with Irrfan Khan was an enriching experience. He had such a unique approach to acting and storytelling. I learned the importance of nuance and depth in performance, which I try to incorporate into my work.
**Interviewer**: Regarding censorship, do you see it as a barrier to the growth of Pakistani cinema?
**Saba Qamar**: While I agree with the necessity of cultural sensitivities, I believe it can hold back our films and dramas on the global stage. We can address important issues without compromising local values; it’s all about how we convey the message.
**Interviewer**: Lastly, you’ve recently worked on a web series for Zee-Five, which is now banned in Pakistan. How do you feel about that decision?
**Saba Qamar**: It’s the government’s choice, and they have their reasons, which I respect. As an artist, my focus remains on my craft, and I will continue to pursue projects that inspire me, regardless of the platform.
**Interviewer**: Thank you, Saba. Your insights into the evolving landscape of Pakistani cinema and your artistic journey are truly inspiring!
**Saba Qamar**: Thank you! It’s been a pleasure sharing my thoughts.
