It’s a great day for “A little something extra”. Three and a half months after its release, Artus’ comedy about disability has passed the milestone of 10 million entriesannounced the director on his Instagram account this Saturday. His film thus becomes the biggest success of French cinema in the last ten years.
Artus is delighted with these good figures which fall on a special date for him: “It’s crazy that the 10,000,000 falls on my birthday, it’s so crazy… With this film you are giving me the best gift I have ever had and will ever have”he wrote.
The biggest French success in 10 years
The last time a French film exceeded 10 million admissions was in 2014 with the release of “Qu’est-ce qu’on a fait au Bon Dieu?” by Philippe Chauveron (12.3 million admissions). The biggest success of the year ahead of “Inside Out 2” and “Dune: Part Two”, Artus’ film is now the 30th biggest success at the French box office of all time and the 12th biggest success in French cinemaaccording to its distributor.
Artus announced in early July that a behind-the-scenes documentary about the film would be released in 2025.
“Generous, easy to access”
This success is welcomed by Richard Patry, president of the National Federation of French Cinemas: “The film does not lie, it is generous, it is easy to access”he emphasizes on franceinfo. “He’s going to get into the Top 10 [des plus gros succès français de tous les temps] “quite quickly”he predicted.
“There are still a lot of people who haven’t seen it and there are a lot of people who have seen it and want to see it again, to share it, to go see it with friends, because it’s really a film that you share.”he adds, believing that the effect “feel good” is in full swing for this comedy. “When you leave there, you leave the room better than when you entered it, going to see him is doing yourself good”he smiled.It’s the sincerity, the generosity, the desire to please, the public felt it and that’s what makes it successful”explains Richard Patry.
