File Explorer has always had a place in the Windows ecosystem, but with Windows 11, it has become even more important. In a future update, it should have the right to a sacred facelift.

Windows 11 Program Insiders received a new update, Build 25272. This does not introduce any new features for the file explorer, but contains some very interesting things in its code. Thus, we can have a glimpse of the future.

New sections, new homepage, the explorer gets a makeover

First remark, the appearance of a new tab in the file explorer: Gallery. This is placed between Home and OneDrive. For the moment, its function is not yet fully known, since it seems to duplicate the Images tab that we already know. The only difference would lie in the presentation of the contents. Microsoft would show images as a tile, like in the heyday of Windows 8. Other things should come to File Explorer, like the C tabsuggested content which speaks for itself.

A new homepage should also be rolled out. Currently, this consists of quick access icons (desktop, downloads, documents, etc.), but soon, it should adopt a redesigned design. We can get a glimpse of it in this visual shared by Neowin. As you can see, it’s still work in progressbut it gives us an idea of what Microsoft has in store for us.
