Key figures for the home employment sector in France

The annual report of the private sector employers and work at home sector for the year 2023 has been released. According to this report, more than 11% of French households use home employment, thus representing nearly 5 million people in France, including 3.3 million individual employers and 1.3 million employees. This activity also represents a net payroll of 8.9 billion euros, which demonstrates the weight of the sector of activity in France.

A sector in constant evolution

According to the report, the sector of private employers and home employment has experienced a contrasting evolution following the health crisis. In fact, there are more and more older private employers. In addition, individual childcare remains the leading mode of childcare, with 34 places available for 100 children under 3 years old.. However, the decrease in the number of professionals in this sector raises questions regarding the maintenance of a sufficient reception offer for all. Training for employees increased by more than 33% in 2021, with 6 employees trained out of 10 who are childminders.

The contribution of cultural diversity in the home employment sector

The report also highlights that, in the home employment sector, almost 1 in 4 employees was born abroad in 2021 and that innovative solutions have been put in place to attract new employees to the sector thanks to to innovative programs. The French federation of private employers and domestic employers (Fepem) has launched “Lab Migration” for home employment in Marseilles and then in Paris. The advantage for the sector is to have a more original job offer and to promote the acquisition of professional and cultural skills, in response to demographic challenges and recruitment needs.
