Attorney Michal Staněk, whose daughter was born last spring, is turning to the Constitutional Court. He was entitled to the allowance in November, his parents applied for it later, within the limits of the law, specifically in January of this year. “The way the system is set up, I think it’s discriminatory,” explained Staněk website List of Messages.
The Staňk family is only entitled to 300,000 crowns because the child was born last year. “This is direct discrimination based on age, which is inadmissible. It is the same as if you said that pensions will increase only for those who have already reached 70,” added the lawyer.
The parental allowance has been increased by 50,000 crowns to 350,000 crowns since January, the relevant amendment was signed by President Petr Pavel in December. The new amount of the contribution applies to children born from the beginning of 2024, it follows from the government proposal, which was approved by both parliamentary chambers.
While the contribution increased by 50,000 for one child, it is 75,000 crowns in the case of multiple children. At the same time, the drawing of the parental allowance was shortened from the current four to three years. The changes concern children born from January 1, 2024, confirmed the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs in press release.
Parental allowance is the allowance of a parent who takes care of a child who is the youngest in the family personally, all day and properly for the entire calendar month. The parent can choose the monthly amount of the parental allowance until the total amount is used up.
