The fifth running of the bulls, the fastest of the Sanfermines

PAMPLONA (Spain) (EFE).— Yesterday’s running of the bulls, the fifth of the Sanfermines, was the fastest so far in this year’s festivities, at two minutes and thirteen seconds, and ended with seven runners injured, none by goring.

In record time, the bulls from the Domingo Hernández Martín ranch completed the journey from the corrals in Santo Domingo to the bullring in the capital of Navarre, in the north of Spain, through the city centre.

At this speed, the runners, traditionally known as mozos, had great difficulty keeping up with the pace set by the bulls from the start, which also led to numerous falls, as a result of which, according to the first medical report, seven mozos were injured, one of them with head trauma.

Steals attention

But the one who stole the spotlight was the YouTuber and Instagrammer “Speed”, who appeared unexpectedly at the Sanfermines.

Darren Jason Watkins Jr., 19, known as “IShowSpeed” or simply “Speed,” did not actually get to step in front of the bulls, entering the bullring well before the herd, but he still created a great deal of excitement among the crowd.

“Speed” is an American content creator famous for his live broadcasts, which he does from different parts of the world and who pays special attention to the soccer player Cristiano Ronaldo, of whom he is a fan.

He has 26 million subscribers on YouTube, 28 million followers on Tik Tok and 20 million on Instagram.

Yesterday he chose Pamplona to create content and, specifically, the running of the bulls.

Dressed in traditional festival clothing – white and with a red scarf around his neck – he entered the route at the Town Hall Square in the Navarrese capital at around 7:30 a.m., half an hour before the start of the race in front of the bulls.

Thus, he entered the bullring long before the herd of bulls, and although he managed to go unnoticed at first, the younger ones began to identify him and take photos with him.

The expectation among some of those gathered in the square reached such a point that the police decided to remove the YouTuber from the bullring as a precaution in anticipation of the later arrival of the bulls and to prevent what happened in other places where the “Speed” emerged with difficulty from the crowd.

Angry at having to leave the arena, “Speed” was recorded by many social media users who in turn posted the videos on Tik Tok.
