The festival “Jauno teatro dienos” begins – the creators of stage art are preparing to surprise Klaipėda | Culture

For 12 years, JTD has been giving performing arts professionals the opportunity to discover like-minded people, see other creative methods, make quick decisions and meet the audience directly. Klaipėda Youth Theater, which organizes the festival, improves the format of the event every year, looking for the most attractive ways for artists and spectators to create and observe stage art experiments.

“This year, the format of the festival is a bit different again – JTD participants will devote two days to lectures and workshops with lecturers, and during the remaining two days they will create and present performances on a topic unknown to them. The quick assimilation of new knowledge and its application in creating the final performance will require concentration and close teamwork”, says one of the organizers of the festival, actress Laima Akstinaitė, who creates roles in movies and Klaipėda Youth Theater performances.

After a month-long selection, 36 talented creators from all over Lithuania will participate in JTD activities this year. Some of them already have experience and are known for following the current affairs of the country’s cultural field, others are just starting their career path.

JTD participants will improve their professional skills together with experienced performing arts professionals. Creative workshops will be held during the festival by director Olga Lapina, practitioner of applied theater Tinka Werner and playwright, street art creator Linas Jurkštas. From the 36 participants of the festival, 4 teams will be formed, which will have to prepare one performance each. The teams will be led by directors of the young generation: Paulius Markevičius, Artiomas Rybakovas, Paulius Tamolė and Jonas Kuprevičius.

The culmination of JTD is the previews of the works of 4 creative groups, which will be held on August 17. All residents and guests of Klaipėda are welcome – the works will be presented in public spaces of the city. After the previews of the works, there will be a discussion moderated by theater critic, publicist Vaidas Jauniškis. The closing evening of JTD will be crowned by the concert of the Kopanugaris group.

Another special highlight of JTD is the live filming of Klaipėda Youth Theater’s webcast “On the tip of the tongue”. Host of the webcast Toma Liutike will interview director Paulias Markevičius, actress Giedrė Giedraitytė and theater critic Vaidas Jauniškis in the space of Herkaus Kanto, which is popular with artists.
