– The Festival of the City on a cloud
The Lausanne event brought together more than 100,000 visitors in six days. Interdisciplinarity played out, the weather too.

At the Balcons de la Mercerie, the circus poetry of the Collectif Cie SCoM seduced as much as intrigued.

Who is “more than exciting?” Great? It is in any case on this appreciation with polite jubilation that the organizers of the Festival de la Cité closed their 51st edition on Sunday, which claims more than 100,000 spectators to have walked through the historic district of Lausanne for six very sunny days. An attendance similar to the previous year, which had been marked by the half-century of the festival but also by some organizational hazards due to the Tour de France and the announced departure of the director.
Among the many artists drawn from the barrel of queer, the English Lambrini Girls were not the least funny.

For her first round at the head of the City, Martine Chalverat did not make a mistake. Demanding a public and free demonstration that is also a paragon of inclusive activism right down to the “x”s and the “.” of the press release, the artistic deal has ultimately dissolved the dogmas in the deep end of artistic communion. The Lausanne population of all backgrounds and of all ages visited the 167 performances on the program, including 55 concerts. According to the director, the public showed curiosity and adhered to the proposals, pointed or not. Projects outside the walls, such as wandering shows in the Vallon district or in Faverges, were also well attended.
La Cité 2023 will have offered 167 performances in six days, including 55 concerts.

“The edition was joyful, with a lot of public and beautiful artistic moments, both in music and in theater or performing arts,” says Martine Chalverat. Who is delighted with the success of the new places explored by the festival. “The three new stages (two platforms at the Bessières bridge, the Balcons de la Mercerie stage and the one south of the cathedral) worked well, offering magical and suspended moments.”
Tomorrow we work.

Among the many highlights, the festival highlights the Lucerne percussionist Jonas Albrecht and his solo which plunged the public into a collective trance at the Balcons de la Mercerie. Or, on the Bessières bridge, the bewitching live performance of the Swiss jazz duo, Eloi Calame and Louis Matute. A standing ovation resounded in the cathedral for the quartet Mabe Fratti, just like during the performance of the Zurich native Christian Zehnder. After parties at Usine Tridel were also in full swing until 5 am on Friday and Saturday.
And too bad if the ban on shrimp in Asian dishes, in order to respect the charter of short food circuits, will have caused more talk than most shows.
