The Festa dell’Unità becomes dell’Unit*, the latest from the PD sparks mockery –

In the operation that led to the attempt to introduce asterisks and “schwa” into common usage to make the Italian language more “inclusive”, unexpected heights are being reached. The latest outburst is that of the Democratic Party, which has renamed the Festa dell’Unità, a historic summer event of the Democrats, into Festa dell’Unit*… A move that has sparked the most disparate ironies. Among the many posts dedicated to the outburst of Elly Schlein’s party, that of Matteo Salvini stands out: “But unit* in what sense? For the Democratic Party, there is also Festa dell’Unità? embarrassing”, writes the deputy prime minister, minister and leader of the League.

Lots of comments from users on the controversy asterisk: “Why do we, good people, have to witness these farces?”, “They’re fed up! Here in the lower Bologna area the councilors are unleashed, they put asterisks everywhere, even on road signs! Is it possible that there is nothing else important??? Are these the battles that their great-grandparents would have wanted???”, are some of the comments posted on X. “Once upon a time at the Unità festivals the left discussed how to defend workers and the weaker classes, today they talk regarding gender and organize the Unità festival with * and the schwa in the name of political correctness”, writes Francesco Giubilei, president of Nazione Futura, “Gramsci and Togliatti are turning in their graves”.
