The Ruian Court in mainland China recently opened a trial for a theft case. The defendant Wu stole more than 5.38 million yuan from the store where he worked for 16 months. He was sentenced to 6 years in prison and fined 12,000 yuan.

At the beginning of 2019, the defendant Wu Mou was introduced to be a salesperson in a cloth shop in Ruian. At the beginning, Wu worked diligently and quickly gained the boss’s trust. In his spare time, Wu is very obsessed with consumption and shopping. One time he accidentally discovered that the boss is using WeChat on the store’s tablet to settle funds with customers, and the money is also in the WeChat wallet. Job opportunity, quietly remember the boss’s payment password.

On October 26, 2020, Wu Mou privately registered the WeChat “Xiaohao”, and used the boss’s account to transfer 8,868 yuan. Due to the large transaction volume and high turnover of the store, the abnormal transaction was not noticed by the boss. Since then, Wu began to commit crimes frequently and often came to the store early in the morning to transfer money. Wu is greedy for extravagant life. He not only buys famous brand clothing and cosmetics, but also often spends hundreds of thousands of yuan on beauty and nail art, and even squanders 1 million yuan a month.

During the period, the owner of the cloth store once thought that the impact of the epidemic caused the loss of the store. It was not until the end of 2021 that he realized that something was wrong and called the police followingwards. In January 2022, Wu surrendered to the public security organs. The court found out that between October 2020 and January 2022, the defendant, Wu, transferred more than 180 times through the above-mentioned transfer method, and the total amount of the theft was more than 5.38 million yuan.

After the incident, the defendant Wu had withdrawn the illegal income totaling more than 3.31 million yuan, and returned the items purchased by the crime proceeds to the victim at a price of 160,000 yuan, and obtained the victim’s forgiveness. The Ruian Court held that the defendant, Wu Mou, for the purpose of illegal possession, secretly stole other people’s property for many times, and the amount was particularly huge. His behavior had violated the criminal law and constituted the crime of theft. Combined with the sentencing circumstances such as the defendant Wu’s ability to surrender and voluntarily plead guilty and accept punishment following the incident, the court made the above judgment.

The judge reminded that self-employed businesses and other businesses should raise their awareness of theft, implement anti-theft measures, keep their account passwords safe, and change them regularly. Young people must establish correct values and consumption concepts, do what they can, and do not get caught up in extravagance because of their vanity, go astray, and end up in prison, it is not worth it!
