The federal government made a deficit of almost six billion by May

Deposits of around 38.2 billion euros were offset by payments of around 44 billion euros.

“We want to halve the deficit in order to put Austria on a sustainable budget path in the medium term. The current implementation of the budget also shows this necessity,” Finance Minister Magnus Brunner (VP) was quoted as saying in a press release on the occasion of the publication of the figures. His goal is for Austria’s deficit to be well below three percent of economic output from 2024.

Neos budget spokeswoman Karin Doppelbauer criticized the fact that Brunner warned that Austria had to return to a sustainable budget path, but did the opposite itself.
