As BFMTV reports, fuel prices could increase during the summer, in particular due to the international context.

Will French motorists again revise their budgets upwards? BFMTV explains that it is possible that fuel prices will increase during the summer.

At present, the price of gasoline is around 2 euros per liter. It would have increased by 9 cents last week, according to figures from the Ministry of Ecological Transition.

Several factors raise fears of a further rise in prices. In the United States, the phenomenon called “driving season” will soon begin. “Americans are driving more from May onwards and it is reflected on this side of the Atlantic”explains Olivier Gantois, president of the French Union of Petroleum Industries (Ufip).

In addition, the conflict in Ukraine has direct consequences on tariffs. Faced with a much feared embargo on oil, but also on Russian gas, crude prices have soared. Olivier Gantois fears that as long as the war is ongoing, oil prices “will remain at high levels”relays BFMTV.

What decision will Europe take?

If the Ukrainian conflict continues to drag on, Europe may be forced to take a stand. So far, it has not ordered the establishment of an embargo on Russian oil, unlike countries such as the United States, Japan, Canada or even Australia.

Nationally, the new government formed by Elisabeth Borne will soon have to decide. Maintaining fuel prices below 2 euros should normally come to an end on July 31. Will this device be extended? According to BFMTV, the executive is considering a measure instead “more targeted”.
