Slowly but surely, FCZ sports director Marinko Jurendic should fill his drawer of coach candidates with dossiers! Because whether master trainer André Breitenreiter (48) will fulfill his contract until 2023 is becoming increasingly questionable.
The latest rumor from Turkey that Galatasaray wants to lure the coach to the Bosphorus is a fairy tale from 1001 Nights. Rather, it is Breitenreiter’s German homeland that might slide into the continuation of the fantastic collaboration between FCZ and Breitenreiter.
In the Bundesliga, there is an unexpectedly violent tremor in the coach. With Gladbach, Wolfsburg, Hertha and Augsburg, four Bundesliga clubs are looking for new coaches – provided they stay in the Berlin league.
Also on the carousel: Breitenreiter. The former Schalke, Hannover and Paderborn coach has now returned to the market in Germany with the FCZ title following his private two-and-a-half-year break.
Gladbach offers everything that Breitenreiter appreciates
According to Blick information, the FCZ coach is high on the list of candidates, at least for Gladbach. As the second Zurich master trainer alongside Lucien Favre (64).
Employers of such Bundesliga caliber must have meant Breitenreiter when he said on “Sport1” that he would undoubtedly listen to alternatives if they came up.
If a club like the Fohlen or Wolfsburg gets serious, the German would be gone. In other clubs such as Augsburg, however, not necessarily. But both Borussia and VfL offer a stable club environment and at the same time a lot of sporting potential. Exactly what Breitenreiter appreciates.
Decision only following FCZ analysis
His dream of hearing the Champions League anthem as a coach? That would of course be absolutely realistic with a team like Gladbach, especially since as a Bundesliga club you go directly into the group phase and don’t have to survive three qualifying rounds like Zurich.
But a quick decision will not be made. Breitenreiter has even said publicly that he will first wait for the end of the season at FCZ and then listen to how Zurich wants to take the next step. Key word: squad planning.
But it is quite possible that the next step at FCZ will also mean looking for a new coach.
