The FBI disputes Baldwin’s account of the shooting incident in the movie “Rust”

An FBI firearms expert said on Monday that the gun that actor Alec Baldwin had when a live bullet came out of it and killed the cinematographer of the 2021 movie “Rust,” Halena Hutchins, would not have been fired. The fire would have been ready if Baldwin had not pulled the trigger.

The testimony of Hannah Gutierrez, the weapons officer in the film, contradicts Baldwin’s initial testimony following the incident, which also injured director Joel Souza.

Baldwin testified that he prepared the weapon to fire but did not pull the trigger.

Gutierrez’s lawyers say she is being sacrificed to cover up Baldwin’s failure to follow basic firearms safety rules.

FBI expert Bryce Ziegler said in his testimony, “(The weapon) would not have fired without pulling the trigger while it was in the firing position.”

In a television interview with ABC in December 2021, Baldwin denied responsibility for the shooting, explaining that the mission of Gutierrez and others was to ensure the safety of firearms and not to use live ammunition on set.

A judge in New Mexico decided to hold Baldwin’s trial on July 10 on charges of manslaughter.
