A 78-year-old man was shot to death while defending his son when he was assaulted by two criminals at the entrance to his house in the Buenos Aires city of Mar del Plata, police sources reported today.
The victim was identified by the Police as Daniel Marcel (78), father of the journalist from Mar del Plata, Marcelo Marcel.
The event occurred last night, following 8:00 p.m., at an address located in the Gabito Bannat y San Lorenzo area, in the Las Lilas neighborhood of Mar del Plata, where Marcelo was regarding to enter the garage with his vehicle and was approached by two armed criminals with theft purposes.
Faced with this situation, the father, who was on the top floor of the house, went down and tried to defend his son, and in those circumstances he was shot and remained lying on the floor, while the assailants escaped.
According to sources, the victim was taken by ambulance to the Interzonal Hospital in Mar del Plata, where he died from the injuries sustained.
Meanwhile, the investigations were analyzing the images from the security cameras at this time in an attempt to identify and locate the criminals.
The staff of the 12th police station is involved in the investigation. and the Mar del Plata prosecutor on duty, Romina Diaz.

Lastly, Juan Manuel Cheppi, Secretary of the Knowledge Economy, said: “I want to send my condolences to Marcelo Marcel who today lost his father in a terrible act of insecurity. I greet all his family at this painful moment ”.
