The Fate of Free Radical Design and the Future of TimeSplitters 4: A Deep Dive into the Uncertain Future

2023-11-09 07:00:54
Free Radical Design, founded primarily by the team that developed Goldeneye 007 and Perfect Dark, launched Timesplitters for the PlayStation 2, which quickly became a hit. Two other games followed, but we never got TimeSplitters 4, which had been in development since 2007. Since then, the studio has had its fair share of issues, with games canceled, sold and even disbanded, before being resurrected in 2021 as Embracer promised a new installment in the Timesplitters series. But as you know, Embracer is currently in financial trouble, and it seems that Free Radical Design and TimeSplitters 4 may once again be hit with new obstacles. According to VGC, it seems that Free Radical Design may be shut down, which may also mean that the games they have been developing will also be abandoned. Employees were told that the studio would likely be shut down, several members of the team were already looking for jobs, and the best (only?) hope for survival was for someone to buy the team, which, frankly, seemed unlikely. Because Timesplitters really aren’t something people ask for anymore. We have been looking forward to new opportunities for employees as soon as possible if the studio closed. How interested are you in the new Timesplitters adventure?
