Dar added, during a telephone interview with Egyptian television, that this type of fish lives at depths of up to 20 meters, and “we are in a period of fishing ban, and food for these fish is available.”

He continued by saying: “The fish come out to the areas near the shore in three cases, the first of which is when some boats throw dead animals into the water, and the second case is when the boat owners provide food to sharks, which changes the nature of their nutrition,” stressing that “everyone has been made aware of this matter and no longer It is happening”.

He explained that the third case is the shark leaving to give birth in shallow areas for fear of males or enemies, and the female shark secures the area and visits it before giving birth, and the fish is in a state of agitation because it feels danger to its newborns.

The professor at the Egyptian National Institute of Marine Sciences explained that when the shark enters the “birth stage”, it is in a state of nervous excitement and does not eat until it gives birth to the newborn.

He said: “The fish implements its natural instinct by placing its newborns in a safe place, and if it finds any living creature, whether human or otherwise, it goes into a state of agitation and attacks it, because it feels threatened.”

The Egyptian Ministry of Environment said in a statement that “the men of the Red Sea Reserves concluded that” a tiger shark was the one that attacked a beachgoer, which led to his death.

Sharks live in the Red Sea, but they rarely attack tourists unless they exceed the permissible limits. Hurghada attracts divers from all over the world to enjoy its clear waters, coral reefs and rare fish.
