Direction the island of Jacques Cousteau, in Mexico. It is the best place in the world to watch the ballet of the Mobula rays.

Here, no palm trees on the beaches, but cacti. This exotic Mexican island in Baja California, completely uninhabited, was renamed Jacques Cousteau. The famous oceanologist has conducted many explorations there. At a few meters depth, the spectacle of the great migration of Mobula rays unfolds. That morning, a small group of tourists set off for the bay. The instructor and dive guide, Ophélie de Lacoste, analyzes the behavior of the animals, before giving the green light.

A unique show in the world

The diving is done with a mask and snorkel, the only way to be able to follow the ballet in rhythm. The rays, perfectly harmless, move in majestic schools and swallow great distances. A wonder for divers. “It’s fabulous, one of the best experiences of my life“, confides one of them. Then, another magic appears. The rays suddenly all start to jump out of the water, chaining the pirouettes a few seconds apart. “I did not expect such a sight“, recognizes one of the tourists. The great migration of the Mobula rays can only be observed in Baja California, once a year.
