The “farewell” to Phoivos Ioannidis – “A versatile political personality has “gone”” – 2024-05-07 08:53:50

The Speaker of the Hellenic Parliament, Konstantinos Tasoulas, expressed his sadness at the resignation of former PASOK MP and minister Phoebus Ioannidis.

The President of the Parliament issued the following statement:

“A multifarious political personality “left” shortly before the Resurrection of the Lord.

Phoivos Ioannidis, a proud Cretan, was born in Sitia, studied law and was a leading member of the anti-dictatorship struggle in Crete, an action for which he was arrested and imprisoned.

He faithfully served the place he loved so much as a Member of Parliament for Lasithi with PASOK from 1989 to 2004.

He was Deputy Minister of Social Insurance in the government of A. Papandreou, as well as Deputy Minister of Industry, Energy and Technology and Deputy Minister of Labor and Social Insurance in the governments of K. Simitis.

In the Parliament of the Hellenes, he demonstrated a particularly active presence and action, being, among other things, the Parliamentary Representative of PASOK in 1997-1998, the President of the Committee for Revision of the Constitution of the 7th Revisionist Parliament in 2000 and the President of the Institutions and Transparency Committee of the Parliament in 2002.

Foivos Ioannidis, with his multifaceted political personality, action and experience, will be missed from the political life of the country.

I express my sincere condolences to his family and loved ones.”
