After circulating news of the death of two prisoners due to violence and neglect in the prison, the local prison administration in Nador denied the allegations circulated by some websites regarding “the death of a prisoner following being subjected to violence by the institution’s employees” and “a previous death of a Guinean prisoner due to negligence was recorded.”
The prison institution explained, in an explanatory statement, that “the first death case involved prisoner (S.B.), aged 72, who died in the hospital following he was urgently taken out following he entered a state of unconsciousness, noting that the person concerned had previously been taken out.” He was admitted to the external hospital three times, the last of which was on April 24, 2024, following recording a significant decrease in his weight.
It was recorded that “the person concerned had never been admitted to the institution’s hospital, and the medical autopsy of his body did not prove the presence of any traces of violence or bruises on his body, which makes the allegation that he was subjected to violence unfounded.”
As for the case of death related to a prisoner of Guinean nationality, the same source adds, “It dates back to October 29, 2023, when the person concerned died in the regional hospital in Nador, where he had been hospitalized since October 26 of the same year, following suffering from severe pain.” Intestine”.
The statement indicated that “the aforementioned prisoner had previously been transferred to an external hospital several times, and he had also benefited from several medical examinations, contradicting the allegations that he was subjected to medical negligence contained in the aforementioned articles.”
