Kate Moss comes from the parade generation of supermodels of the 1990s. She competed for places on the catwalk and on the front pages with stars like Cindy Crawford, Claudia Schiffer and Eva Herzigova. But the British woman was never the well-behaved, well-adjusted beauty. At 1.70 tall, she was a little too short and also not quite as flawless as her competitors. Moss made her breakthrough as an anti-model, so to speak, and with her androgynous appearance and bony physique bordering on anorexia, she shaped the so-called heroin chic. At the height of her career, one photo of Moss at the Glastonbury Festival wearing a particular brand of wellington boots was enough to sell out across the UK for weeks.
Her saying is still legendary today: “Nothing tastes as good as being thin feels.”
Moss rejected the accusation that she was glorifying the skinny look. She was never anorexic and never took heroin. When photos appeared in 2005 that appeared to show the British woman, who was born on the outskirts of London, doing coke, she apologized. The fact that the reporting only focused on her was hypocritical. “Because everyone I knew did drugs.”
Today she’s taking it easier
When she was once asked in a video by Vogue magazine what she missed most regarding the ’90s, she replied: “The freedom of being without cell phone cameras.” Today she says she rarely goes to bars, but rather likes to be at home.
She lives in the countryside of England, likes old sitcoms, meditates in the morning and lies under the moonlight at night, as she told the Sunday Times newspaper.
Her daughter Lila Grace is particularly important to her. Moss founded her own agency and signed the 23-year-old there. “Watching her build her career takes me back to the ’90s,” Moss wrote in Vogue. “But I know things will be different for her.” Lila knows that she can say no and she has the right people around her. “I made sure of that.
