Quarterback Derek Carr appeared this Sunday with the New Orleans Saints in the 26-24 victory over the champions Kansas City Chiefs in the first week of the 2023 preseason of the NFL, the professional American football league.

Back on the field, the New Orleans offense returned to the end zone with a 29-yard pass to rookie Atorian Perry that made the score 14-0.
At the beginning of the second quarter, kicker Wil Lutz connected on a 36-yard field goal to extend the lead to 17-0.
The monarchs reacted before the break, getting closer to 17-7 with a touchdown pass that Richie James caught.
The Chiefs were boosted by their defense in the third quarter. Kahlef Hailassie intercepted and the attack took advantage of the success with a series that ended in a touchdown reception by Justyn Ross that closed the game 17-14.
In the next series, coach Andy Reid’s team turned the score around 17-21 with a pass from Shane Buechele to Kekoa Crawford and extended the lead to 17-24 with a field goal in the last quarter.
Saints came back with a pass to Ellis Merriweather that put them within 23-24, although they failed on the two-point conversion.
It seemed that Kansas City would take the victory, but an interception put the New Orleans offense back on the field so Blake Grupe gave them the 26-24 victory with a field goal.
With the Saints, Alvin Kamara, who had three carries for 14 yards, will not be at the start of the official 2023 season; since the NFL suspended him for the first three games because he assaulted a man last February while he was at a hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The runner, however, is cleared to play during the preseason.
