The expedition is ON: the epic journey between the two extremes of the planet on board an electric vehicle begins

Amid the snow-covered landscapes of the arctic region, adventurers Chris and Julie Ramsey began their long-awaited expedition Field is Field. On their journey aboard the 100% electric Nissan Ariya, the British couple will drive more than 27,000 km through North, Central and South America, towards the most remote point on Earth, the South Pole, in the Antarctic region. , where they intend to arrive in December of this year.

In addition to pioneering this journey between the two extremes of the planet aboard a car, the team Field is Field is facing yet another challenge: carrying it out in a 100% electric vehicle. The couple Chris and Julie embarked on this journey to demonstrate how powerful and exciting electric cars are, hoping to contribute to accelerating the adoption of electric mobility in positive action once morest the climate crisis.

The Nissan Ariya that is participating in the expedition underwent minimal modifications to better face the extreme terrain that the team must encounter along the way. Among them, highlight for the suspension, which was raised and received larger wheel arches to accommodate the huge 39-inch tires, which will help the car to “float” in the thick snow and ice banks of the Arctic. However, no modifications were made to the battery or the electric motor, which remain the same as the factory. The same goes for the advanced technology of Nissan’s e-4ORCE electric all-wheel drive control system, present not only in the Ariya but also in other electrified vehicles from the brand.

While traveling through the remote polar regions, the couple will transport an innovative renewable energy generating unit, including a wind turbine and foldable solar panels. The prototype will take advantage of the expected high incidence of wind during the journey and the long hours of sunlight to use natural energy to recharge the Ariya’s battery while the couple Chris and Julie take breaks following driving in challenging environments. The team hopes that the innovative battery charging system will leave a positive legacy, inspiring the transition to electric vehicles in future polar explorations.

“After years of planning and hard work, we are incredibly excited to officially start our expedition. Field is Field“, commented Chris at the start. “Over the past ten years, Julie and I have been on many adventures in electric vehicles, but Field is Field is definitely our biggest and most passionate challenge. We had to think outside the box, be innovative and work collaboratively with partners who share our ideals to make this expedition a reality. Our Nissan Ariya is very pleasant to drive and did very well for the 5,000 km we covered to reach our starting point. He gives us the confidence we need to face each scenario on the path we will travel in the coming months”, added his wife Julie. “It’s really cool to share our adventure with you and shine a light on the amazing people, communities and projects we’ll meet along the way – this will make a positive difference to the climate crisis. We would love for everyone to be part of the expedition Field is Fieldso follow us and follow our adventure on our social networks”.
