With special artistic interest, the exhibition of the renowned Achaean painter continues in Rio Sotiris Iosifidis with a title “Unconditional”which is an iconic visual manifesto with political implications and references.
The artist’s workshop and gallery ‘I’, located at 13 Somerset Street, presents a small series of works about the stolen Parthenon marbles, with a central panel, the large-scale (2.45 X 1.85) collage and color entitled ‘Bring back our bones”. This is an impressive work, which is a protest against the theft of the Greek treasures from the Acropolis and their stay in the British Museum.
Speaking at the opening, Sotiris Iosifidis denounced and criticized “the barbaric and kitsch supermarket “British museum”, their dark environment with many meanings and allegories in another concentration camp of mutilated values”.
And at the same time, the riotous artist motivated the audience:
“Let’s demonstrate together visually and ask everyone inside and outside for the unconditional return of our sacred bones of Phidias to their natural marsippus, the Parthenon of the world in the light that gave birth to them and us without the insidious conditions that can then control us in all levels. The inventors of divide and rule.”

### Interview with Sotiris Iosifidis: The Artist Behind “Unconditional”
**Editor:** We are joined today by Achaean painter Sotiris Iosifidis, whose latest exhibition “Unconditional” is currently on display in Rio. Welcome, Sotiris!
**Sotiris Iosifidis:** Thank you for having me!
**Editor:** Your exhibition “Unconditional” has sparked significant interest, particularly with its political undertones. Can you tell us what inspired you to address such themes through your art?
**Iosifidis:** Certainly! The title “Unconditional” reflects the unwavering commitment to cultural heritage, especially regarding the significant loss of artifacts like the Parthenon marbles. I wanted to create a visual manifesto that speaks to both beauty and the urgent need for justice regarding these treasures.
**Editor:** The centerpiece of your exhibition is the large-scale work titled “Bring Back Our Bones.” Can you share the message you hope to convey through this particular piece?
**Iosifidis:** “Bring Back Our Bones” is a direct protest against the removal of the Parthenon marbles from Greece. I used collage and color to create a visceral experience that connects viewers emotionally to the valuable history lost. The bones metaphorically represent not only the marbles but also the cultural identity of Greece. I want people to feel the gravity of this issue and spur them into action.
**Editor:** What kind of reaction have you received from the public in Rio?
**Iosifidis:** The response has been overwhelmingly positive. People are engaging with the art and sparking conversations about cultural heritage and restitution. It’s encouraging to see how art can evoke such passion and dialogue.
**Editor:** How do you see the role of artists like yourself in addressing political and social issues?
**Iosifidis:** Artists have a unique voice and the power to reach and move people in ways that words sometimes can’t. Through our work, we can illuminate injustices, challenge perceptions, and inspire change. It’s not just about creating beautiful things; it’s about using our platforms to advocate for what is right.
**Editor:** Lastly, what do you hope audiences will take away from the “Unconditional” exhibition?
**Iosifidis:** I hope they leave with a renewed sense of responsibility for the preservation of cultural heritage. Understanding that art is not just an aesthetic experience, but also a medium for activism, is crucial. I want them to take action in their own communities and support movements that align with these values.
**Editor:** Thank you, Sotiris, for sharing your insights with us today. We encourage everyone to visit your exhibition and engage with your powerful message.
**Iosifidis:** Thank you for having me, and I look forward to seeing you at the gallery!
