The exhibition of Polish artists “The Fifth Commandment of God” opens in Klaipėda Culture

“The purpose of the exhibition “The Fifth Commandment of God…” is to support all people affected by the war. The exhibition related to the commandment of the Decalogue “Thou shalt not kill” tells about the war, Russian aggression and everything related to it now through artistic means.

It is attended by members of the Poznań branch of the Union of Polish Artists and invited Polish artists and poets.

The exhibition at the Poznań gallery “U Jezuitów” was presented on the first anniversary of the war that started in Ukraine in 2022 – 2023. on February 24, it was not only symbolic, but also directly contributed to the goals of this event”, – exhibition curator Liza Kesauri.

“Each of us knows what the continuation of the phrase “The Fifth Commandment of God…” The so-named exhibition was opened on an extremely significant day – February 24, during the first anniversary of Putin’s invasion of the sovereign and independent (since the collapse of the Soviet Union) state of Ukraine. The exhibition is not a manifesto, but a reminder of the fifth commandment of the Decalogue, the foundation of our civilization. The fight against the aggressor has been going on for two years, a brutal attack has been going on for two years, civilized European countries and the United States have been helping Ukraine for two years. During the two years of the war, and many anti-war artworks and poems were created in the previous years, there were many protests against totalitarian and anti-democratic movements.

The exhibition was conceived by the graphic artist and painter Mark Maksimovich, the chairman of the Poznań branch of the Polish Union of Artists, an active member of the Polish Union of Belarus, who lives in Poznań and is actively involved in anti-totalitarian movements. The idea of ​​the exhibition was supported by the director of the Poznań Center for Cultural Integration, Brother Jacek Wróbel SJ. The works on display express protest and are a shield that repels the demons of war and destroys them. This art is a weapon to fight internal and external enemies, the civilization of death,” artist Jan Wojciech Malik.

The exhibition was prepared by the Poznań branch of the Union of Polish Artists.

The exhibition will be open at the Museum of the History of Little Lithuania until May 31
