Eyelid drooping is excess skin on the upper eyelid, according to Medline Plus, the US National Library of Medicine.
In addition, it revealed that eyelid drooping is almost always due to:
- Weakness of the muscle that raises the eyelid.
- Damage to the nerves that control that muscle.
- Sagging of the skin of the upper eyelids.
- Normal aging process.
- Congenital.
- The result of an injury or illness.
However, there are diseases or conditions that can lead to drooping eyelids such as:
- Tumor around or behind the eye.
- Diabetes.
- Horner’s Syndrome.
- Myasthenia gravis.
- Cerebrovascular accident.
- Inflammation of the eyelid, as is the case with a stye.
Additionally, a droopy eyelid can remain constant, worsen over time (be progressive), or come and go (be intermittent). In children, drooping eyelids can lead to the development of lazy eye or amblyopia. In the long term, it can result in vision loss.
The library also said to see a doctor if a drooping eyelid is affecting appearance or vision, if an eyelid suddenly droops or closes, or is associated with other symptoms, such as double vision or pain.
That said, The Spanish revealed some exercises for the eyelid and the first thing is to put the palms on the forehead and eyelids. Then, with her index finger, she raises her eyebrow towards one hundred and tries to close her eye, but not completely, and the exercise is repeated ten times for each eye.
The second recommendation is to put the fingers of both hands on the forehead and raise the eyebrows ten times.
The other exercise is with the tips of the index fingers and thumb: gentle pinches are made below the eyebrow as if lifting the eyelid towards the scalp and this is repeated ten times for each eye.
For its part, another recommendation is to cut a cucumber into slices and put them over the eyes for 15 minutes, since this food is 97% water and contains antioxidants, natural and mineral oils that make it a great ally to hydrate, repair and protect the skin. In addition, it is a rich source of vitamins A, C and E.so that it helps eliminate toxins from the skin, leaving it clean and bright.
Similarly, the exercise, wellness and nutrition portal Salud 180 revealed that a home remedy is to mix four tablespoons of plain yogurt, four tablespoons of aloe vera gel and five slices of peeled cucumber until you get a smooth paste. Then, it should be applied to the eyelid and left to act for 20 minutes. Finally, the mixture is removed with cold water and repeated once a week.
Another suggestion is to moisten chamomile tea bags with water and put them in the freezer for half an hour to finally place them on the eyes for 20 minutes.
Anyway, if the eyelid is very droopy, the treatment for droopy eyelids is eyelid lift surgery (blepharoplasty) and this is done to repair droopy eyelids. It may consist of the removal of excess skin, muscle and fat.
After surgery, the person may temporarily feel: blurred vision due to the lubricating ointment applied to the eyes, watery eyes, sensitivity to light, double vision, swollen eyelids, numbness, swelling and bruising similar to having a black eye or pain or discomfort.
However, the first thing to do is consult a health expert so that he or she can guide the process and indicate what is most appropriate for each person, since the information given above is in no way a substitute for medical advice.
