Beijing: China has executed serial killer Lao Rongxi, accused of seven murders between 1996 and 1999. The High People’s Court of East China’s Jiangxi region announced that Lao’s execution was carried out as per the Supreme Court’s order. In a statement released by the court, they were given an opportunity to meet their family members before the execution.
It is reported that they are accused in many cases of theft, robbery and kidnapping in China during 1996-99 and killed seven people including a child. After this, they were arrested on November 18, 2019, who were on the run for twenty years. Then last year the court sentenced Lao to death. During the trial, she described all the atrocities she had committed and blamed her ex-boyfriend for everything, according to Chinese media. Lao’s lover Fa Sieng was executed in 1999.
The court heard that all the crimes were committed by Lao and her boyfriend Fa Sieng. Both met in 1993. Then fell in love. The duo, who first committed petty thefts, killed seven people in Nanchang, Weinzhou and Hefei in the three years from 1996 to 1999. In 1996, a couple and their three-year-old child were killed during an attempted robbery at a house.
Lao argued that her boyfriend was the mastermind behind the crimes and that she was merely accompanying him, but the court did not take it at face value. During the trial, Lao expressed deep regret for all the mistakes he had made and announced that he would reward the families of the victims.
Lao, who was arrested in 1999, went on the run for almost 20 years following impersonating him. They were arrested while selling watches in a shopping center in Xiamen in November 2019. Then in August 2020, they were charged with murder, robbery and kidnapping. After their arrest, all their political rights were revoked and their properties were confiscated by the government.
